The Sustainability Education Collective – Bærekraftskollegiet in Norwegian – is a grassroots initiative that began in 2020 to better coordinate, develop and collaborate on sustainability education at the University of Bergen.

The aim is to be a transformative learning initiative, growing a community of scholars and students developing sustainability-related courses and enhancing existing courses to include sustainability across all subjects.

This initiative has a multiplier effect. Generations of students are reached by fostering sustainability learning through enhancing university educators’ knowledge and experience about developing sustainability education. Since the beginning, the Sustainability Education Collective has involved students as partners.

Specific tasks are:

  • Participation in meetings
  • Support of meeting organization (agenda setting, invites, meeting room, coffee and food, minutes, hotel reservation etc. for longer meetings)
  • Revival and further development of the webpage
  • Analysis of data collected during sustainability-related courses
  • The workload for 2022 with two student co-coordinators will be 160 hours per co- coordinator at the regular student assistant rate of approximately NOK 190 per hour

This list can be expanded and as part of your application. Bærekraftskollegiet are interested in hearing your thoughts for activities that can help grow Bærekraftskollegiet.

If you are interested in becoming a student co-coordinator, send an application of maximum one page of text that includes:

  • A brief narrative CV
  • Your main motivation for applying
  • An outline of your vision for Bærekraftskollegiet and of your ideas for specific activities in 2022 and onwards
